Abstract

The "consistency of engineering" is a dream that is often cherished but never actually realised. Although this keyword appears in the recommendations for action of the Industry 4.0 platform, its realisation faces enormous challenges. Any practicable realisation of this goal today must deal with methods, models and tools of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) - great potential is seen here - on the other hand, the hurdles of the non-existent interoperability of the tools used must be overcome. Classic monolithic PLM systems quickly reach their limits here; what is needed is the use of an open and flexible PLM platform. The presentation will discuss how such a platform can bring together the specialist world of MBSE with the other engineering disciplines and what potential can be realised in the process. The system architecture should complement existing product structure concepts and thus support the interdisciplinary development process in the early phase.
